DEERING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT ATHLETES REVAMP GYM TO BE INCLUSIVE TO ALL

Two senior student athletes at Deering High School are remodeling their gym with inclusivity in mind! After a recent gym update in the school, these students noticed that a resource for the whole school was not being utilized by all. They are planning and designing a usable and accessible gym for their school.

They noticed that “many people are intimidated going into a gym when it is filled with athletes who know what they are doing. We want to make everyone feel welcome and like they belong in this new space because they do.” Having a safe space to try new workouts and equipment will deepen a sense of inclusion, and makes physical activity accessible to a greater portion of the student body.
