NEW STUDENT-RUN KENDAMA CLUB BRINGS STUDENTS TOGETHER AT DEERING HIGH SCHOOL

A Deering High School Sophomore is using his interest in Kendama to create a new school club, the “Deering Damas.” Kendama is a Japanese skill toy that utilizes hand-eye-coordination, balance, and reaction time. After bringing his own Kendama to sports practice, he noticed many teammates asking about, and wanting to use, his Kendama.

The club will be an opportunity to bring together a wide range of students with a shared interest in gaining more Kendama skills. He hopes that the club would become a group of people “who wouldn’t normally interact with one another becoming friends and learning to love Kendama.”
