2 grants awarded in a Collective Effort to Revamp the Music Room

Two projects in the 2021-2022 school year contributed to brightening up the music room at Deering High School.

Decian and Emmanuel worked as partners to fully customize the storage cabinet. They hoped to encourage school spirit with purple and white, as well as continue a shared love of music with inspirational quotes. They received funding to prepare the aged wood of the cabinet with sanding, as well as supplies for painting it anew. Decian wrote in their application that this project will “encourage music students to play their instruments in confidence and it will encourage every student that sees the fully finished project to live their lives in joy and gratitude.”

Later on in the school year, we heard from Deering High School senior Xander wanted to continue creating a more vibrant and uplifting space for incoming students to practice their music in. He painted some additional cabinets and shelves in the room purple and white, the school colors to facilitate that environment. Xander speaks to the importance this project holds to him. Xander shared, “I love music and I wanted to help incoming students feel like they had a vibrant space. Everyone can enact change, even if only a little bit”.
