Students making a social impact through books!

Seniors at Casco Bay High School are starting a “Banned Book Club.” They will be running a book club that will educate and spark conversations about access to literature, the adversities that the different communities face daily, and the polarization around issues within the media and beyond. Their club will bring together students of all backgrounds, to develop a deeper understanding of their community.

Organizing and leading the book club themselves, hope to gain skills to create a “lesson plan” to guide the reading and conversation starters for each meeting. These meetings educate, spark discussion, raise awareness, and build community within their school. At the culmination of the book club they plan “to take statements such as ‘I once thought…. Now I think…’ and put them together as a display for the rest of the school.”
