Casco Bay High School senior expanded their senior project to provide safe bird habitats on the CBHS campus. “My vision for change is for the residents of Maine to improve the wildlife habitats and understand the impact they have on wildlife. As part of my Slice of the Solution, I want to place wren and bluebird houses throughout the CBHS campus.” Researching, designing and implementing her plan, this senior made a lasting impact on the beauty of the school community and increased safe habitats for wildlife.

A Casco Bay High School senior came up with a ‘Slice of a Solution” to address increasing carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere. With research skills, project management, and creative thinking this senior came up with a plan to address increasing CO2 levels through planting native trees and plants.

Longfellow Elementary students who access the resource room for support in a variety of subjects are leaving a lasting impact on their school community! Students decided they needed books at their skill level that represented their interests. They expanded their classroom library with books that kept them engaged and interested in reading. These books will be available for future children to find their own joy of learning.

Portland High School Juniors brought their community together and created an inclusive space for new friendships to form! Utilizing communication, leadership, and technological skills the students developed a new club at their high school centered on E-Sports. The club created a space for students who were not connected to traditional extracurricular activities to be engaged in their school community.

Third graders at Rowe Elementary school used leadership and teamwork to teach Kindergarten classes fun and educational “centers.” They built new friendships and bridged gaps between grade levels, starting a tradition that strengthened their school community bonds!

Portland High School Juniors launched an inclusive dance club, welcoming students from all backgrounds and those eager to learn! Their club was a great way for students to build confidence, creativity, and leadership skills. Together they cultivated an inclusive environment for students to develop their craft and build meaningful connections within their community.

A Senior Portland High School used her PATHS program to learn curatorial skills and showcase fellow student art work. Using flexible thinking, creativity, and organizational skills she selected, staged, and executed an exhibit of student work at the Portland Public Library.

Students at Lincoln Middle School created an art contest to amplify multilingual students’ voices, celebrate diverse perspectives, and cultivate belonging. Students created pieces that reflected their identity, culture, and community. Selected pieces were on display at Portland’s First Friday Art Walk. Using leadership and organizational skills the planning committee learned more about their communities culture while amplifying diverse student voices.

Deering High School Seniors co-lead the costume department at their school. They demonstrated leadership and initiative by cleaning out and donating costumes and supplies that were rarely used. They organized costumes, and invest in supplies to improve the functionality of the space. They have spent much of their high school years in this space and hope to leave it a usable, fun environment for future students to enjoy as much as they have.

Students in the Asian Students Union at Portland High School developed a mural that was designed and painted by their group. Utilizing project management skills, leadership, and team work they were able to work together to create a mural that will continue to be a symbol of representation and inclusion for years to come!

Seniors at PATHS taught hip hop and afro beats dance classes to middle school and elementary school students. They gained leadership skills while developing routines, teaching classes, and adaptability. Together they created a safe space for students to express themselves!
